Artist's Comments

I watched a movie called Mirrormask. That got me so inspired that I just had to get to the school and start painting despite it was already almost nine o'clock at the evening and there was about -20 celcius outside.
If you have seen the movie you can see the influence pretty clearly I think. But this was one of those moments when I didn't let the inspiration go by, even though I worked on this during two days.
But, once I got this finished I had to struggle to get the paper off the surface I was painting on. Our teacher had some strange new idea of making paper stretching boards. Thats a cool idea I think, but he had us put glue on it's surface so it wouldn't absorb all the water so fast. Thats cool too, but the thing is that the glue wasn't really waterproof and got all sticky once wetted. So the paper stick to the board. Well definitely the paper didn't suffer from any wrinlking up. But it was a real struggle to get the paper off the board... it did recieve some damage to the backside as I had to rip it off and use some tools for that too. And later I heard that even the teacher never had tried this before... so... way to go...

i like the greyish tone of this city, has a good effect of conveying pollution and smog, which adds to the miserable feeling you want to epress in this painting! uhm, think i did that kind of stretching back in high school. i never really liked tghat method myself either, lol!

Thanks for the comment. Actually the grayness just happened because I wasn't happy with the colour at anypoint and just made new layer after layer on it. But I kinda like the result anyways. The paper just got quite screwed up during that and I had to be very careful when painting those darker things on it.
And yeah, now our teacher got us new boards with laminating (?) on them. And they don't work either... nothing sticks to them. Not even the glue paper. Again, way to go...

Mm pidän väreistä, ja muutenkin kuva on hieno..

Kuulostaa pelottavalta tuollainen liimailu, mutta uuden kokeiluhan on aina kivaa ja joskus menee männikön puolelle.

juh, ny lopetin turhanpäiväisen kokeilun ja pistin paperin kiinni pohjustamattomalle levylle. Toimii iha yhtä hyvin.

Thnaks for commenting!

Pohjustamaton levy? Pohjustettu?

Aah joojoo.. :D

..anway, awesome job! yay!!
